Can I use it on my own, if he can't stand up?
Yes. You slide one side underneath him while he's lying down, bring it round, and he's in it. No getting him upright first, no second pair of hands.
Will it block him from toileting?
No. It sits under him, not across him, so he can still toilet normally with it on. We checked this on the sample specifically — it's the first thing owners of male dogs ask.

Great — for me it's the best harness when your dog has issues with its hind legs. It doesn't bother him when putting it on since it couldn't be simpler, and it helps a lot. My dog weighs 30kg and with this it's much easier to help him get up and walk a little when his legs fail.

Why not just use a towel?
Plenty of owners start there — it's free and immediate. But a towel bunches, slips, and needs both your hands, so you end up bent over, bracing, taking the strain through your own back. It doesn't sit under the hips where the failure actually is, and it isn't something you can do ten times a day for months. It's a stopgap, not a solution.
Is it strong enough for a big dog?
We load-tested it to 60kg of dead weight, lifted and dropped repeatedly — no stitch movement, no strap slip, no give at the seams. On that basis it's rated for dogs up to 60kg (130lb). Over 60kg, this isn't the right sling for your dog.
Will it rub or hurt him?
The panel that sits against him is padded and fleece-lined, so the weight spreads across his belly and hips instead of digging in through straps. Get the size right and it shouldn't rub — if it's too tight it can, which is why we say size up when you're between two. On thin or sensitive senior skin, check underneath after the first few uses, and take it off between lifts rather than leaving it on all day.
Will he let me put it on — or hate wearing it?
Most dogs take to it quickly, because nothing goes over his head or round his legs — it slides under while he's lying down, so it doesn't feel like a fight. Give him a day or two and a few treats the first few times. And because it only goes on for the moments he needs it — getting up, the stairs, outside — it's on and off in seconds, not something he wears all day.
Can he still use his own legs, or does it just carry him?
It's built to assist, not replace. He takes what weight he can through his own back legs; you support the part that's failing, through the handle. That's the whole point — he stays on his own feet and keeps the muscle and the dignity he's still got, instead of being carried. If his back end has gone completely and he can't bear any weight at all, this isn't the right tool — you'd want a full-body harness or a wheelchair.
Can I wash it?
Yes — sponge it down or hand wash, and air dry. Don't tumble dry it; heat is what degrades webbing over time.
